Theme

The radiance of joyful dance — Cidambaram-Naṭarāja

A deeper bhāva note is being authored by our musicologist; this short theme stands in until then.

Sahitya

Pallavi

Ānanda naṭana prakāśam, citsabhēśam āśraye, śiva-kāmavalli-mānasa-vāsam

I take refuge in the lord of the hall of consciousness (Cit-sabhā), illumined by joyful dance — who dwells in the heart of Śiva-Kāmavalli (Pārvatī).

Charaṇam theme

Five-fold dance of Naṭarāja at Cidambaram — creation, sustenance, dissolution, concealment, grace

The body of the kṛti enumerates the pañca-kṛtya (five cosmic acts) embodied in Śiva's dance: sṛṣṭi, sthiti, saṃhāra, tirobhāva, anugraha. Closes with the Guruguha mudrā.

Tāla — Miśra Chāpu

7-beat asymmetric (3 + 2 + 2). Famous: O Rangaśāyī, Akṣayaliṅgavibhō.

7 beats per āvarta · this notation spans 6 cycle(s)

Paramparā

Saṅgīta Sampradāya Pradarśinī (1904)

This page shows the kṛti's playable notation + opening sahitya. Bhāva, rāga svarūpa, learning-path, and full word-by-word sahitya are added incrementally as our musicologist reviews each kṛti.
