Ādi tāla — The 8-beat cycle

Beauty arises when mṛdaṅgam + tāla unite with poetic praise.

The tāla is not optional decoration. It is the structural ground that the kṛti walks on.

The teacher

Why this stage now

Tyāgarāja's own kṛti "Sōgasugā mṛdaṅga tāḷamu" says beauty arises when the mṛdaṅgam and tāla unite with poetic praise. You learn the kāla first, then put the kṛti on top.

You're ready for the next stage when

You can hold Ādi tāla through one full āvarta at 80 BPM while singing the Mōhanam scale.
