Saptaśva — The seven svaras

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Da Ni Sa before any kṛti, every single day.

The seven svaras are the body of music. Sing them up and down a hundred times before you ever sing a kṛti.

Why this stage now

The śiṣya at Tiruvaiyāru sang the saptaswarā for years before approaching any kṛti. The seven svaras are not a warm-up — they are the foundation.

You're ready for the next stage when

Arōhaṇa + avarōhaṇa in Sankarābharaṇam at 60 BPM with all svaras inside the ±10¢ band and a Sancara score ≥ 90.

The protocol

  1. 01Open Sancara Practice with Sankarābharaṇam.
  2. 02Sing S R G M P D N Ṡ ascending, then Ṡ N D P M G R S descending.
  3. 03Goal: every svara stable within ±10 cents on the cents-drift bars.
  4. 04Practice at 60 BPM first. Move to 80 BPM only when 60 BPM scores ≥ 90.
