Why this stage now

This is the curriculum Tyāgarāja himself sang at his own samādhi. Hundreds of musicians sing them in unison at Tiruvaiyāru every January. To know these five is to belong to the lineage.

You're ready for the next stage when

Each Pañcaratna pallavi from memory cold + at least one charaṇa per kṛti.

The protocol

  1. 01Week 1–2: Jagadānanda Kāraka (Nāṭa) — invocation. Read the 108 epithets aloud.
  2. 02Week 3–4: Dudukugala (Gauḷa) — confession of unworthy pursuits.
  3. 03Week 5–6: Sādhinchēnē (Ārabhi) — relationship with Rāma.
  4. 04Week 7–8: Kanakana Ruchirā (Varāḷi) — vision of Rāma in golden garments.
  5. 05Week 9–10: Endaro Mahānubhāvulu (Śrī) — gratitude before the great.
  6. 06Milestone: on the next Tyāgarāja Aradhana day (Pushya Bahuḷa Pañcamī), sing all 5 at home in canonical order.
